Trogir, Croatia
Trogir is a living museum, a medieval town so well preserved it has earned itself a UNESCO world heritage designation. A short hop away from Split by boat or by car, it has it’s own airport and it is 25 minutes away from the major highway that connects it to the rest of Croatia and Europe.
Being a compact medieval town, everything is a walking distance, and there is something for everyone. If “Fjaka” has gotten a hold of you, you can leisurely sip a “Prošek” in one of the cafes that line the waterfront, and play the guessing game of which celebrity will walk out of the yachts that pull up on the “Riva”.
Or you can walk through the narrow cobblestone streets that cut through the town like a maze, and hole up in one of countless restaurants and cafes for some quiet time to get some work done. Just the other side of the bridge is the island of Ciovo, that’s where the beaches are. You can go for a quick dip on the small sandy beach between the two bridges, or go a little further to Okrug for a more social atmosphere, with boardwalk, cafes and restaurants. And for a completely detached feeling, head further on the south side of the island which has countless little coves and beaches carved out of the cliffside.
A day trip to one of the surrounding islands is a sure way to take in the beauties that Dalmatia has to offer, it’s crystal clear waters, the rugged coastline, and the salty air carrying with it the scent of wild lavender has a way of stopping time, and let you enjoy these little moments of life “Pomalo”.
